Caving and Cave Tubing at Calico Jack's
There are thousands of caves in Belize. This is due to the fact that much of Belize's land surface is underlined by limestone. This creates extensive underground cave networks and sinkholes. Therein lie many relics of Belize's rich ancient Mayan past. Many caves prove a challenge to the experienced spelunker, but there are a few which beginners can access and enjoy. Zip Lining in Belize and at Calico Jack's
Belize zip lining tours are available for adventures and thrill seekers. For the ultimate nature and adventure experience, try Calico Jack’s 1200 feet aerial canopy supervised by experienced guides, which includes the option to combine with a tour of one of Calico Jack’s recently opened caves. Your time in the air will have you gliding amid the rainforest canopy at heights of up to 80 feet above the jungle floor. Or combine zip lining and cave tubing at Caves Branch. In the water, you'll float through an awe-inspiring cave system that was once revered by the ancient Maya. Experienced guides will ensure that your tour is fun, insightful, and safe. Calico Jack's Ancient Jungle Garden Trail
Enjoy a guided nature walk through the rainforest on Calico Jack’s Ancient Jungle Garden trail. This hiking trail which boasts more than 90 plants and trees gives visitors an opportunity to learn about the many medicinal properties of rainforest plants and trees used by the ancient Maya in their daily lives. Many of these plants and trees are still used by Belizeans as “home” remedies. The intent of this guided tour is to spread the knowledge of Mayan healing traditions and also of rainforest preservation. Scuba Diving in Belize
The Inner Reef, or the Lagoon as its called, acts as a home for juvenile aquatic animals. Here divers will find most of the Gorgonians, known in the Caribbean as sea fans, seawips, sea plumes and sea rods as well as the Pederson cleaner shrimp, yellowline Arrow Crab, Giant Hermit Crab and a wide variety of fish such as Spotted Drum (adults and juveniles), Spotted Eagle Ray and Southern Stingray. The depth range on these inner reef dives is between 60 ft. - 80 ft. Visibility is between 50 ft. - 100 ft. Among the cayes we visit in the Inner Reef are Laughingbird, Moho and Tarpon. Snorkeling and Diving with Whale Sharks
There is a migration in March, April, May, and June when the sharks are observed at the Gladden Area by divers & snorkelers. The giant whale sharks come from far away to feed on the spawn and to mate. It is common on this dive to see schools of snapper in the thousands with whale sharks passing through them. Birding and Bird Watching in Belize
Agua Caliente Wild Life Santuary contains 133 acres of freshwater, 3 fresh water lagoons, three creeks and 2 hot springs. One highlight is the high potential of the large array of bird species that come to feed. Aguacaliente is a bird watchers paradise. This area also changes dramatically during the dry and wet season. It is flooded for most of the year thus the flora and fauna have special adaptations that allow them to survive in these conditions. Snorkeling in Belize
In recent years, Belize has become known as a top location for snorkeling. In fact, many visitors list it as the primary reason for coming to Belize. With an unrivalled barrier reef, divers and snorkelers in Belize can experience coral atolls, fringing reef, patch reefs and faroe, each offering differing underwater coral formations and a variety of flora, fish and marine creatures. Belize Kayaking
The Rio Grande River drains from the high Maya Mountains of Southern Belize down to the Gulf of Honduras, bringing fresh water to replenish the mangroves and natural fish nurseries along the coast. Kayaking these waters is a lifetime experience you'll surely never forget. Exploring Mayan Ruins and Mayan Temples
At one time, areas around Belize were part of the heartland of Mayan Civilization. There are numerous important Mayan Ruins and Temples to visit and explore. Fishing in Southern Belize
Southern Belize has an abundance of fish with the best fishing in June through October. An added bonus is there are not a lot of anglers – just lots of fish. Around the cayes and open water, expect Tarpon, Bonefish, Wahoo, Snapper (yellowtail, mutton, cubera,..) Black-fin & Yellow-fin tuna, King Mackerel, a large assortment of Jacks, and, as always, plenty of Barracuda. With summer fishing in Belize you also have the chance to see the whale sharks –which are attracted by the large schools of tuna. Permit on the flats; great Tarpon in the mangroves; and in October the snook start appearing in the Placencia Lagoon and especially in the Monkey River area. Belize is an angler’s paradise! |
