Calico Jack’s Village is a rainforest preserve area of about 400 acres with flora and fauna representative of Belize. Magnificent Ceiba trees, called Yaxche by the ancient Maya, abound consistent with the caves and general Mayan flavour of the property. Yaxche or Tree of Life, represents the axis mundi, the stable world center or the bridge between heaven, earth, and the underworld as the Maya saw it. The roots of the Ceiba tree reach down into the caves systems and are also said to shelter bats, symbolic of the underworld.

Driving Directions

We are accessible from Belize City by vehicle (2 to 2.5 hour drive) via the George Price Highway and also rugged roads that wind through the hills and local villages. There are two roads from the George Price Highway to Calico Jack’s. At the village of Georgeville, you can pick up the Chiquibul Road (know also locally as the Mt. Pine Ridge Road) from the George Price Highway traveling west and then south to Calico Jack’s.

Alternatively, you can continue on the George Price Highway and pick up the San Antonio Road through Cristo Rey and San Antonio and to a T junction (see photo below) where you would go to the left. Your choice of road will depend on weather conditions, other stops you would like to make on the way, and the type of vehicle you are driving.
